This month’s featured roast comes from Bredda Coffee, a new roasting company established during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne. Their focus is on spotlighting the people behind the beans - with each roast named for the person who grew it, right at the start of the chain. Their goal is to kick off conversations about how many people contribute to what goes into that final brew.
They’re sharing their Rodrigo Sanchez roast, a coffee named for the farmer who grew it on his family farm. It has flavour notes of orange sherbet, lime and lemongrass!
- Tasting notes: Orange sherbet, lime, lemongrass
- Origin: Huila, Colombia
- Altitude: 1730 masl
- Varietal: Geisha
- Process: Washed
- Size: 200g
100% of the profits from this month’s Roaster Roster sales will go to Nutrir Foundation to support vulnerable and displaced children in Colombia.
Colombian coffee, like the one featured on this month’s roaster roster, is celebrated around the world for not only the quantity it produces but the superior quality, too. Colombia is the second largest producer of Arabica coffee in the world and home to over 500,000 small-holder family coffee farms. It’s not just the gifts from mother nature that have earnt Colombia its superior coffee reputation, but also the skill and dedication of the people who grow it. Colombian coffee is usually harvested manually (rather than using machines to strip the plant), with only the ripest beans being hand-picked from the plant to ensure only the highest quality roast at the end of the line.
